BRUSSELS/BRATISLAVA – It was not so long ago that MEP Ivan Štefanec made headlines with his departure from the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH), when he was prevented from voting on the two-sex constitution. He also has an opinion problem with the war in Ukraine and everything related to it, including sports. He swore that he would not play Slovak Olympic hockey this year!
Štefanec expressed his dissatisfaction on a social network. The MEP and former KDH member is bothered by the fact that the colors of Slovakia will also be represented in Italy by three players who are involved in the Eastern Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), which, according to critics, is primarily supported by the bloodthirsty leadership of Russia. It is currently still active in Ukraine. This keeps MEP Štefanec awake, and despite his years of active cheering for the national team, he will give up his favorite activity this year.

Hockey and terror in Ukraine
“Terrorist hockey players,” Štefanec began his position very sharply. This is exactly how he perceives the series of players who appeared in Slovakia’s Olympic nomination. According to him, the Slovak Ice Hockey Association (SZĽH) has “again brought a huge shame to the country”.

He is referring primarily to the trio that is involved in the KHL, namely Adam Ružička, Adam Liška and Martin Gernát.

Moral waste that has become part of the representation
“Martin Gernát, Adam Liška and Adam Ružička preferred blood money in a competition run by the government of a terrorist state, which has been committing genocide against the innocent people of a neighboring country for the fourth year. Their complicity was their own, but since this moral waste became part of the Slovak national team, this enormous shame became the shame of every Slovak citizen.” Štefanec hit himself even more.
The former coach claims that he used to personally support the Slovak hockey team at world championships, the World Cup and even the Olympics. “Today I feel only incredible shame and contempt for all those who caused this shame,” concluded Štefanec.
It is said that not only the result is important in life, but especially the way in which it is achieved. “You can’t support moral waste…” Štefanec finished.
