Robur Basket Saronno considers Palaronchi purchase

Centro Giovanile Ronchi in Saronno faces an uncertain future as the local parish moves to sell the via Colombo complex, leaving community sports organizations scrambling for space. While the parish seeks a buyer for the multi-use facility, the municipal administration has not yet clarified whether it intends to acquire the property.

Robur Basket Saronno Considers Direct Purchase of Palasport

Robur Basket Saronno has urged civic leaders to state their intentions for the complex. Club president Ezio Vaghi warned that losing the Palasport—the home of Saronno basketball since 1983—could devastate local sport infrastructure. If private buyers acquire the facility and displace the club, the blue-and-whites would be forced to request municipal courts in a city where athletic spaces are already scarce. Because the municipality has not made a formal move to purchase the property, the club is evaluating an independent financial offer specifically for the gymnasium building it relies upon daily.

“We have been here since 1955, born right inside the oratory, and we feel not as tenants but as an integral part of the pastoral community,” Vaghi said. “We expected the Comune to step forward officially, but so far that has not happened. The center is not ours but belongs to all Saronnese people and must be preserved.”

Daily Impact on Local Youth Sports and Associations

The via Colombo complex serves as a vital daily hub for multiple organizations, housing basketball alongside Robur Calcio and Tennis Club Ceriano Saronno. The parish views the property as no longer strategic due to operational costs. Throughout their tenure at the Ronchi center, sports clubs have covered their own utility bills and invested heavily in facility improvements. Vaghi emphasized that his organization has never relied on public municipal facilities, maintaining financial self-sufficiency since the days when Charlie Yelverton helped build the club into a prominent Lombardy sports institution.

Next Steps for the Saronno Facility

The municipal administration has not established a timeline for responding to the parish’s sale initiative. Robur Basket Saronno awaits a formal civic policy decision regarding the property’s acquisition before determining whether to submit a direct bid for the gymnasium structure.
