Asked by Sky SportsSlot acknowledged that his players’ inability to unbalance certain defenses had cost them dearly throughout the season.
“I have already said it 150 times: against certain styles of play, we perform very well, and against others, we struggle”he explained. “We may have seen that, even if many people today highlight our long possession of the ball, against Arsenal’s low block we still struggled to create chances. This is clearly an aspect that we need to improve. This is also one of the reasons why we are so many points behind them. »
Arsenal are six points ahead of Manchester City and Aston Villa, while Liverpool are in fourth place, 14 points behind the Gunners, despite a run of nine matches without defeat.
Liverpool’s average shots on target have fallen from 6.1 per game last season to just four this season. Slot, however, recognized the quality of the opponent he faced.
“What we missed, and this is not the first time, were the situations on the edge of the surface”he added. “We always hope to create more chances, but against an Arsenal team full of confidence, delivering a performance of this level remains very positive. »
