Kristers Zoriks Joins Udine: Latvian Basketball News | Lente.lv

The new step of Krister Zorik’s career in Italy

The head coach of the Latvian national basketball team, Kristers Zoriks, has officially joined the Italian Serie A team “Udine”. The club announced the transfer today, January 12. Zoric, 27, who previously played for Spanish ACB club Forca Lleida, has become Udine’s latest addition.

Transition from Spain to Italy

Krister Zorik moved to the Spanish ACB league earlier this season, joining Forca Lleida. In the last 14 games, he averaged 4.2 points and 1.6 assists. Although Zorik has produced productive performances against strong opponents such as Barcelona, Breogan and Baskonia, his playing time has gradually decreased, leading to an agreement to terminate his contract by mutual consent. News of his move to the Italian club started to emerge back in early January and it has now been officially confirmed.

Zorik as the third Latvian in the history of “Udine”.

Zoriks has become the third Latvian basketball player who will represent the “Udine” team in the Italian top league. Previously, Sandis Bushkevics and Kristaps Valters also defended the colors of this club, although they played in another legal entity – “Udinese Snaidero”, which ended its activity in professional basketball in 2011. At the moment, “Udine” occupies the ninth position in the Italian Serie A with six wins in 15 games played. The team’s next game is scheduled for Saturday at home against “Reggio Emilia”.

Zorik’s career path to Italy

Krister Zorik’s basketball career has been both volatile and full of highlights. Before moving to Spain, he represented the French club “Le Portel”, where he was one of the team’s leaders last season. Before that, he gained valuable experience in the Turkish league “Petkim Spor” and played three seasons in the Latvian championship team “VEF Rīga”, winning several titles. Zorik also has National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) experience. His efforts to reach a higher level are visible, considering the previous unrealized dream transfer to “Žalgiri”.

Latvian basketball in the Italian A series

With Zorik joining “Udine”, Latvian basketball will also be represented in the Italian A series by Artūrs Strautiņš, who plays for “Tortonas”. This confirms the growing presence and competitiveness of Latvian players at the international level, especially in one of the strongest leagues in Europe.
