Ha Hyun-seung and Yoon Ji-won Win 2026 Futures Star Grand Prizes

Busan High School senior pitcher and outfielder Ha Hyun-seung earned top honors as the country’s premier amateur prospect at the 2026 Futures Star Awards, reported on Oct. 26. The ceremony, held at the Korea Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, recognized the nation’s standout youth competitors across multiple sports.

Ha Hyun-seung Claims Grand Prize Following Record KBO Draft Selection

Ha shared the grand prize trophy and a 3 million won cash prize with Gyeongbok High School basketball senior Yoon Ji-won. Both athletes previously received the Future Star Award last year, setting the stage for their progression to the top category this season. Ha dominated high school baseball through his two-way play as both a pitcher and position player. That performance culminated when the Kiwoom Heroes selected him first overall in the 2027 KBO rookie draft, where he signed a record-setting 1.6 billion won contract—the largest rookie signing bonus in the 45-year history of the KBO League.

Yoon Ji-won Drives Gyeongbok High Basketball Dominance

Co-grand prize winner Yoon anchored a historic year for the Gyeongbok High School basketball program. The team secured four tournament titles this season, including a victory at the 63rd Spring National Middle and High School Basketball Federation Haenam Championship. Scouts point to Yoon’s scoring, rebounding, and floor-passing vision as his defining assets on the court.

Star Awards Recognize Multi-Sport Standouts

Several other high school and youth athletes received Star Awards alongside 1 million won in cash and 1 million won in merchandise gift certificates. The list of Star Award recipients features baseball player Lee Ho-min of Gyeongnam High School, footballers Ahn Ju-wan of Shinpyung High School and Jung Hyun-woong of Osan High School, basketball player Yoon Ji-hoon of Gyeongbok High School, golfer Yang Yoon-seo of Incheon Girls’ High School Open Cyber Department, and skateboarder Kang Jun-yi of Yeongdeungpo High School.

Future Star Awards Highlight Emerging Talent

Volleyball player Son Seo-yeon of Sunmyung Girls’ High School and Hwang Seo-hyun of Incheon Physical Education High School earned the Future Star Awards, which included 1 million won cash prizes and equal value in gift vouchers. StarNews hosts and organizes the annual awards program, which was established in 2022 to support Korean sports development and invigorate amateur athletics. The fifth annual ceremony brought together roughly 60 attendees, including award recipients, sport federation officials, league representatives, and selection committee members.

Amateur Sports Development in 2026

The 2026 awards ceremony was backed by the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, the National Sports Promotion Corporation, the Korea Baseball Softball Association, the Korea Basketball Association, the Korea Volleyball Association, and Korea Sports Leisure Co., Ltd. Last year’s joint future star recipients, Ha and Yoon, transitioned into their respective grand prize honors exactly twelve months after capturing preliminary recognition.
