After his red card received against Benin, the Senegalese defender will be suspended for one match and could be available if he qualifies for the quarter-finals.
Kalidou Koulibaly avoids a heavy suspension. The captain of the Lions of Téranga only received a one-match suspension after his red card received against Benin during the third day of the group stage, following a dangerous sole on Lorient’s Aiyegun Tosin. Despite this expulsion, Senegal largely won (3-0) and finished at the top of group D.
The central defender will therefore miss the round of 16 against Sudan, as confirmed by coach Pape Thiaw. In the event of qualification against the Nile Crocodiles this Saturday, Koulibaly could make his return in the quarter-final against the winner of the duel between Mali and Tunisia. Abdoulaye Seck, starter and scorer against Benin, should start alongside Lyonnais Moussa Niakhaté in central defense.
