The European giants’ growing harassment of Kees Smit led AZ Alkmaar to hand over management of the young midfielder’s future transfer to Jorge Mendes. According to the Telegraphthe Portuguese agent was mandated by the Dutch club to conduct what is expected to be the biggest sale in the history of the Alkmaar emblem.
The same source adds that AZ’s technical director, Max Huiberts, defined with Jorge Mendes the minimum value at which the club is willing to negotiate and gave the businessman the green light to talk directly with interested clubs. The entire process will be carried out in conjunction with Forza Sports Group, the Dutch agency that represents the player.
With a contract valid until the summer of 2028, Kees Smit has aroused the interest of several European sharks, as Huiberts said. «Smit is being followed by all the clubs in the top-5 of the main leagues», said the director, in an interview with Voetbal International. He nevertheless rejected the values advanced in Italy, guaranteeing that a proposal in the order of 60 million euros does not correspond to reality at the moment.
Dutch under-19 international and European champion, Smit should be at the center of the market next summer – without the possibility of an early exit in the winter being completely ruled out. So far, the midfielder has played 58 games for the AZ main team, with four goals and seven assists.
