Tour of the construction site in the “House of Sports” + Break-ins at jewelers and goldsmiths are increasing + New bus stops despite diversion?

Good morning!

The tall construction crane on Falkenstrasse makes it clear: something big is being built here. The new “House of Sports” in Lübeck is intended to provide a home for several clubs. The days of the traditional sites of the Lübeck Judo Club, Tanzclub Hanseatic and TSB Lübeck on the banks of the canal are numbered. The new 13.8 million euro club building is scheduled to be completed in November.

Exclusive insight: This is what the new “House of Sports” in Lübeck looks like

That’s what it’s about: In Lübeck, the new “House of Sports” is being built on Falkenstrasse for the judo club, the Hanseatic dance club and the Lübeck gymnastics and sports association. We had the shell of the building shown to us exclusively.

That’s why it’s important: A project that is unique in northern Germany is being built here for 13.8 million euros: modern sports halls, space for major tournaments, youth work – and even coworking spaces for small clubs.

This is how it continues: The demolition of the old clubhouses is planned for November. The “House of Sports” is scheduled to officially open from November 2026 – as a new center for training, encounters and ideas in Lübeck sports.

After breaking into Lübeck’s goldsmith’s shop: “It hurts a lot”

That’s what it’s about: In Lübeck, burglaries in jewelry stores and small goldsmiths are increasing. An example: The break-in at Maren Evers-Knoop’s “Lachmanns Goldschmiede” on Glockengiesserstrasse.

background: The burglars came at night. A neighbor became aware and called the police. The perpetrators took five-figure worth of jewelry. “It’s now being sold off somewhere. It hurts a lot: this lovelessness, this disrespect,” says the 72-year-old owner.

The special: Evers-Knoop doesn’t have much hope of getting the stolen jewelry back. A jeweler on Königstrasse, which was broken into twice in 2025, is now calling for video surveillance on the streets.

Dispute over passing buses soon resolved?

That’s what it’s about: Due to the closure of the Mühlentor Bridge, many buses in Lübeck are currently having to take a diversion. The problem: The stops on the diversion route are not served.

That’s why it’s important: Many buses therefore travel a long distance without stopping – sometimes over a kilometer. Among other things, the senior citizens’ advisory board criticizes this status quo – because of the long walk for passengers.

This is how it continues: Stadtwerke mobil has already calculated that one or two more stops would be possible in the timetable. However, the affected stops are not big enough. The city is currently examining whether anything can be changed.

Is Lübeck building a parking garage next to the MuK?

That’s what it’s about: The Holstentor car park has been closed since the end of the year. But where should drivers park their cars? A parking garage next to the MuK is now being discussed.

That’s why it’s important: The city has developed an urban planning concept for this area. Up to 600 spaces on three levels would be possible on Willy-Brandt-Allee. The current parking lot has 350 spaces.

This is how it continues: Local politicians must now discuss how things should proceed. Will the Holstentor car park be renovated? And should there be a new one at MuK – as a replacement or even as a supplement?

“We need him here”: L’Osteria employee back in Lübeck after being expelled

That’s what it’s about: A young Kurdish employee at the pizzeria L’Osteria on Untertrave had to leave Germany a year ago. Lübeck expelled the young Kurd from Iraq. Now he was allowed to return – as a trainee.

background: “We urgently need skilled workers,” says L’Osteria manager Marina McCormac. She campaigned for months for the return of her colleague Hamad Amen.

The special: The 25-year-old is now completing training as a system caterer. He tells how he, his boss and his brother made his life in Lübeck possible.
