The Councilor for Sports, Beatriz López, and the presidents of the Andalusian Archery Federation, Antonio Cuenca, and the Santa Catalina Archery Club of the capital of Jaén, Javier Medina, have presented today the Andalusian championships in the recurve and compound bow room of the categories ranging from Prebenjamín to Plus 50 and the arch and health modality, which will be held this weekend, 10 and 11 January, in the pavilion of the municipal sports facilities of Las Fuentezuelas. In total, 177 athletes will participate, which represents a historical record in this competition throughout the autonomous community.
López has assured that “for us it is very gratifying to see the increasing pull of disciplines, a priori, more minority.” “Beyond the sporting aspect, in addition, the competition will attract hundreds of people including archers, technicians and the public, which will mean an important economic return and, socially, it will consolidate a project as beautiful and wonderful as Flechas Rosas, with no less than 20 participants, including archers who suffer from lymphedema and those who compete, but do not suffer from the disease,” he added.
In this sense, Medina has stressed that four of them also belong to the club he presides. “Once again we demonstrate our ability to value the city of Jaén through our favorite sport as we already did with the successful Andalusians in 2022 and 2024, and with the Spanish Absolute Indoor Championship two years ago,” he added.
Cuenca, finally, has shown its satisfaction for having achieved the highest participation in this type of tournament in the history of Andalusia, breaking by three archers the record that the capital of Cadiz had had since 2025 with 174: “there will be 177 archers in Jaén and more than twenty technicians with a notable fact that reflects that archery has a future and that means that more than 50 percent of the participating archers are under 21 years.”
The organization has established trophies and medals for the top four finishers in each category. The activity will begin around 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, then there will be a break and will resume in the afternoon. It will conclude on Sunday at noon.
