Infantino: World Cup Ticket Prices May Rise Again

From June 11th to July 19th, the whole world will be looking excitedly to Mexico, Canada and the USA. The 23rd FIFA World Cup is taking place there and there is already a lot of excitement surrounding the mega event in the run-up to it.

Starting with US President Donald Trump, who is making life difficult for some fans with entry restrictions, or his friendship with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who presented him with the newly invented Peace Prize at the group draw in Washington. Added to this were the horror prices for World Cup tickets among fans, which make attending a game more expensive than a skiing holiday for a family of four.

Due to the political situation, calls for a boycott of the XXL finals are now becoming louder. The anger over the expensive tickets has now subsided; everyone who wants to cheer on their nation at the World Cup has already registered and applied for the tickets.

Infantino also made his big appearance at the WEF in Davos, where he explained how the award process will work. Due to the great demand, the boss of the world football association is saying that there will be a drawing to determine who gets a place in the stadium.

At the same time, he announces even higher prizes as soon as the tickets are raffled off. According to Infantino, so many people want to see a World Cup game in the stadium that prices will skyrocket on any resale platforms and is also advertising on FIFA’s official resale website.

The price for a final ticket there is currently said to be just under $200,000. Infantino described that in the USA the resale of tickets on resale platforms is “completely legal”. He goes on to say: “There is a law for that, so of course we have to allow it.”

All games sold out

The 55-year-old is convinced that all the games will be sold out and not, like last summer at the Club World Cup, the stadiums will be half empty. In a speech that was reminiscent of his friend Trump, he also made a curious comparison. According to this, 50 million tickets have been sold in “almost 100 years of World Cup history”. With the requests for the upcoming finals you would have “the requests for 1,000 years of world championships all at once”.

According to the US sports portal ESPN, the cheapest ticket prices on FIFA’s resale platform are currently around 16,000 euros. This means you would now have to pay twice the original price. Prices between 60 and 8,000 euros were charged for a normal game.

In response to a request from the AP news agency, FIFA responded in an official statement: “We are focused on ensuring fair access to our game for both existing and potential fans. FIFA’s resale fees are based on North American industry trends in various sports and entertainment sectors.”
