On Saturday (January 31st) the Veolia Towers start the second half of the easyCredit BBL main round against NINERS Chemnitz. The Hamburg team has so far only been able to win one of eleven duels against the Saxons in the German first floor. The game starts at 8 p.m. – tickets are available online and at the box office.
To put it bluntly: Et löppt! On Wednesday, Veolia Towers secured their fourth win in a row across all competitions. The narrow 99:96 in the EuroCup against Slask Wroclaw also marked the successful start to a series of five home games in a row. However, the tasks don’t get any easier. On Saturday (January 31st) the NINERS Chemnitz will be playing in the Inselpark Arena. An opponent who evokes many emotions – good and not so good. However, the current Hamburg team has impressively demonstrated in recent weeks that they prefer to look forward rather than backwards. The past is yesterday’s news for the team – although the memories from more than two dozen duels are as persistent for fans as the frozen white on Hamburg’s streets.

After successfully completing matchday preparation on Wednesday, the Veolia Towers medical management gave the green light for Zsombor Maronka to return to action. This marks the end of a four-week break for the Hungarian, who averaged 13 points and 4.5 rebounds in the last four games before his loss. Small side note: It would be the first time this season that all players would be available to head coach Benka Barloschky.
When asked about the reasons for the series of four victories, the Hamburg head coach emphasized the distribution of roles that has steadily strengthened over the past few weeks. This means that the players can better demonstrate their strengths. This was particularly noticeable recently with Devon Daniels. The 27-year-old American stood out as the top scorer in the last three games. His average output: 24 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists.
Adversary Insights
The NINERS Chemnitz constant so far is their bad luck with injuries. The Saxons keep losing top performers. In the EuroCup defeat in Podgorica during the week there were three: Amadou Sow (14.6 ppg), John Newman (7.6) and captain Kaza Kajami-Keane (4.0). The fact that there are already seven wins in the easyCredit BBL and Rodrigo Pastore’s team is still in the middle of the playoff race in the BKT EuroCup clearly shows how much quality there is in the squad. And which has recently been significantly strengthened again with the two returnees Aher Uguak and Eric Washington – who will probably celebrate his second premiere on Saturday.
Kevin Yebo (17.1) has established himself as the top scorer. The 29-year-old, who returned to Chemnitz from Munich in March 2025, is the most consistent option. In Nike Sibande (11.1) and Kostja Mushidi (7.6), there are two other extremely dangerous offensive forces in the NINERS’ ranks – but both of them sometimes lack consistency. Nevertheless, the Chemnitz team has the fifth-best attack in the league, which is reflected in an average of 85.8 points, 11.1 three-pointers (33.9%) per game and 18.5 assists. Defensively, however, the current thirteenth place in the table is vulnerable and has the fourth weakest defense – the main reason why they have only won two of eight games since the turn of the year.
