Guirec Soudée passed Cape Horn this Wednesday during his upside-down world tour in a maxi-trimaran.
Launched on an unprecedented round-the-world sailing trip in reverse (from east to west) in a maxi-trimaran, navigator Guirec Soudée (MACSF) passed Cape Horn on Wednesday despite difficult conditions, his team indicated.
Soudée passed the famous tip of South America at 6:20 a.m. (French time), 21 days, 18 hours and 44 minutes after leaving Ushant, facing the prevailing winds and currents.

«Very happy, it’s a great first step (…) But I will really rejoice in three, four days because there, I have some pretty strong systems that are going to hit me, with five meters of sea and very strong winds“, said the 34-year-old sailor.
He is the second sailor to have passed Cape Horn in the opposite direction aboard a giant trimaran, after Yves Le Blévec in 2017, who capsized a few days later. No one has ever managed to complete an upside-down world tour in Ultim.
Only five sailors have ever done it in a monohull. The record has stood since 2004, established by Frenchman Jean-Luc Van Den Heede (122 days 14 hours).
Soudée is tackling this reference time aboard the old Géronimo, launched in 2001 and redesigned in 2012-2013. During his journey, he is advised remotely by meteorologist Christian Dumard.
«Passing Cape Horn itself is complicated, of course, but what lies beyond it is just as complicated. Guirec will have the same – difficult – conditions for the next two or three days», Warned Dumard.
