Fabien Causeur has announced his retirement from basketball. The 38-year-old French player who spent time in our country with Real Madrid and Kosner Baskonia puts an end to a 20-year career in the world of basketball.
These have been his farewell words on his social networks:
«After 20 years on the court, the time has come to close an incredible chapter of my life.
Basketball has given me everything: emotions in every game, teammates who have taught me a lot, coaches who encouraged me to be better in every training session, and memories that will last a lifetime.
I want to thank everyone who has crossed my path and dedicate a few words to those who have held a special place in my heart during all these years:
Mom and Dad, thank you for instilling in me a love for this incredible sport and for teaching me values that I have tried to maintain to this day.
To my sisters Nolwenn and Laurie, as well as my best friends Rudy, Yannick, Vince, Romain and, later, Daniel. Thank you for your support and encouragement during all these years, despite the distance.
To my agents Nicolas and Stefano, we formed a great team for two decades. Thank you for your patience and valuable advice.
Lucía, I finish with you because you have been and always will be the most important person in my life and my career. First of all, thank you for the wonderful family we have formed with Valentina and Liam.
Thank you for sacrificing your time and your own career to allow me to shine and become who I am today. You have been my pillar for all these years and I will be eternally grateful.
I also want to thank all the trainers I have met, the physiotherapists and nutritionists who have helped me develop my career; to the staff of the different clubs who have made my daily life more pleasant; and, of course, to the fans that have supported me all these years. Your support is, without a doubt, what I will miss the most.
I leave the field in peace, full of gratitude. A new adventure begins… thank you for being part of mine.
Real Madrid issued a statement after hearing the news, thanking the player for the services provided:
«In light of Fabien Causeur’s announcement about his retirement as a professional basketball player, Real Madrid CF wants to express its gratitude, affection and admiration for one of our legends.
Causeur contributed decisively to the team’s successes in one of the most brilliant and remembered periods in our history during the seven seasons and 486 games in which he defended our shirt. In all that time, he won 14 titles: 2 European Cups, 4 Leagues, 2 Copas del Rey and 6 Spanish Super Cups.
Causeur is the third foreigner who has played the most games in the history of our team. His commitment and talent will always remain in the memory and hearts of all Madrid fans.
