She played in numerous international matches for the German U-national teams. At A level, however, Mathilde Janzen will play for another country in the future.
It was only in October 2025 that the German-American midfielder Gia Corley announced that she wanted to play for the USA national team in the future – and now the next talent is turning her back on the DFB: Mathilde Janzen announced on her Instagram account on Friday that she would be leaving the DFB.
“After very careful consideration, I have decided to change associations and hopefully play for Sweden in the future and no longer for Germany,” Janzen explained in her post. She emphasized: “This decision was very difficult for me.” Both countries meant a lot to her. She concluded her contribution with the words: “Please believe me that I wore the eagle on my chest with a lot of pride in every game and sang the anthem with joy. Thank you very much, DFB and Germany.”
Janzen has German and Swedish citizenship. For the DFB she made 57 appearances from the U14 to the U23. She wrote on Instagram: “I was able to play two great World Cups for Germany as well as two European Championships, one of which was even won and the other ended in second place.”
In the summer of 2021, Janzen moved to TSG Hoffenheim II and was promoted to the first team squad for the 2023/24 season. In January 2024 he moved to SV Werder Bremen. However, it was hardly used there. In total, they have 40 games with 14 goals in the 2nd Women’s Bundesliga. She has been playing for Kristianstads DFF again since July 1st.
