A few days before the round of 16 of CAN 2025 between the Fennecs and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the French coach spoke. Sébastien Desabre spoke about the preparation for the match, the level of Algeria and the support from Morocco.
A speech focused on seriousness and confidence
In an interview given to Top Congo, Sébastien Desabre wanted to recall the state of mind that has driven his group since the start of the competition. The French technician insists on rigor, seriousness and collective conviction: “We are going to prepare for the match as we have always prepared as seriously as possible by putting things in place to be efficient. We want to play our luck to the fullest because we think we have the ability to pass. »
Continuing his analysis, the coach of the RD Congo then discussed the tactical approach of this meeting against an Algerian selection renowned for its solidity and offensive richness, while highlighting the state of mind of its players: “We will want to score goals. It’s obvious. Afterwards, the balance of power, we will see how they will settle down from the start of the meeting. Algeria is a very good team with a lot of offensive and defensive qualities. So, we’ll put something in place and then we’ll see what happens. What will be important is to give everything on the pitch as we have always given everything. And the players are extremely motivated and waiting for this match. »
Sébastien Desabre then focused on the symbolic and sporting importance of this type of confrontation in the knockout phase, recalling that the great nations always go through this type of meeting to reach the end: “It’s very exciting. When you win a CAN, you have to go through this kind of match. The big matches, so we already have one against Algeria, like we had against Egypt at the last CAN. It’s up to us to know how to maneuver it well and then move on to the next round. And then, we will have another team. But afterwards, Nigeria will have to beat Mozambique too. We have to focus step by step. For us, what is important is to qualify against Algeria. »
Moroccan support, a secondary subject for Desabre
Asked about the support coming from Morocco with a view to eliminating Algeria, Sébastien Desabre preferred to refocus the debate on the essential: “We are focused on the match, we are focused on our fans. That’s what matters most to us. Afterwards, the more people who support us, the happier we are. »
