Earlier on Monday evening, Spain won surprisingly against France.
The result meant that Denmark could qualify for the semi-finals – if they beat Germany in Herning.
And in front of a red crowd in the mythical Boxen arena, there was never any talk of the matter. Denmark won with a clear 31–26, among other things after great goalkeeping from Emil Nielsen.
– I didn’t feel completely up to speed. I was a little heavy-headed, but I’m glad it went well. It helps to have 15,000 behind you, he tells TV2.
Denmark will face Sweden, Slovenia, Iceland or Croatia in the semi-finals.
“He didn’t even dare to dream about it”
The Danish victory also means a passport for Norway – who cruised against Portugal on Monday.
In the final round of the intermediate round, Norway will be pitted against Denmark. A Danish dream scenario, according to TV2 expert Claus Möller Jacobsen.
– It’s a dream scenario that Nikolaj Jacobsen didn’t even dare to dream about. If there is some wear and some players have minor blemishes, this is a great opportunity to play them a little less.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, the Swedish hunt for a semi-final place continues. Then Hungary awaits in Malmö arena at 20.30.
