Dunn and Germain Named McGill Athletes of the Week

Sonia Dunn and Nicolas Germain have been selected as the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending March 22, 2026, McGill Athletics reported. The awards, presented by Restaurant Poulet Rouge, recognize standout performances across different sports, with Dunn dominating in artistic swimming and Germain excelling in badminton at the national championship level.

Dunn Claims Three Golds at Artistic Swimming Nationals

Sonia Dunn, a 20-year-old pharmacology junior from Ottawa, delivered a championship performance at the Canadian University Artistic Swimming League championship. Competing in the Experienced category at the Desjardins Aquatic Centre in Quebec City last week, Dunn won three gold medals and was named athlete of the meet. Her efforts were central to the McGill Martlets capturing the team title.

Dunn’s individual victory came in the solo event. She then partnered with Clara Thomas to claim the duet title. The duo’s performance was a key part of McGill’s success, adding a second gold medal to the team’s total. Dunn concluded her meet by securing a third gold medal in the team routine, performing with McGill’s “Cirque du Soleil” squad. This trifecta of gold medals highlighted her versatility and skill as an artistic swimmer.

Germain Leads McGill at Badminton Championships

Nicolas Germain, a 23-year-old kinesiology senior from Laval, Que., also had a strong showing, leading McGill at the 2026 YONEX Canadian University/College Badminton Championships in Montreal over the weekend. Germain posted a 4-2 record, helping McGill place eighth in the team competition.

In men’s singles, the RSEQ champion opened with straight-set victories over opponents from Laval and Toronto. He advanced to the quarter-finals before falling in three games. In men’s doubles, Germain also reached the quarter-finals. He won his round of 32 match in three games and his round of 16 match in straight sets before being eliminated in straight sets in the quarter-finals.
