Anderson and Searle are in the semi-finals of the Darts World Cup
Gary Anderson dreams of a third World Cup title, Ryan Searle is in the semi-finals for the first time in his career. For a crowd favorite, however, the tournament is over.
Gary Anderson can still hope for his third title win at the Darts World Championship. The Scot won against Justin Hood 5-2 at Alexandra Palace in London and is in the round of the best four players.
In his first participation on the largest darts stage in the world, Hood made it into the quarter-finals as an outsider and current number 86 in the world. In the duel with Anderson he equalized in the sets to 1:1 and 2:2. His 55-year-old opponent then made use of his experience and won three sets in a row.
Searle: “A great moment”
Ryan Searle had already had to give up sets at this World Cup for the first time. The 20th in the world rankings still made it to the semi-finals thanks to a 5-2 win against Jonny Clayton from Wales. “This is of course a big moment in my career,” said Searle on DAZN. “I think luck turned and worked in my favor, especially in this tournament.”
Searle dominated the first three sets, but then gave his rival hope again. However, Clayton was no longer able to initiate the turnaround. The problems with the doubles were his downfall.
