At least three dead and four arrested this Friday left a military operation against the Central General Staff (EMC), the largest FARC dissidentin the Colombian department of Amazonas, official sources reported.
The Minister of Defense, Pedro Arnulfo Sánchez, detailed in X that since “January 1 in the area of the Caquetá River, non-municipalized area Mirití-Paraná, Amazonas”, the public force has been advancing in “an offensive operation” against Néstor Gregorio Vera, alias Iván Mordisco, head of the EMC and the most wanted criminal in Colombia.
“There is no place where those who do so much damage to the country can hide. The best thing alias Mordisco can do is demobilize,” Sánchez added.
The senior official noted that the operation, which combines “intelligence, ground maneuver, air support and judicial action acting with precision and forcefulness,” has left three dead, four injured and three minors recruited by this group recovered.
“High-powered weapons, ammunition and campaign equipment” and “river means used for crime” were also seized.
“To those who still take up arms against the Colombian people, the call is clear and permanent: abandon violence and surrender. Persisting in the war is only a pain for your own family,” said the minister.
Last September, the Colombian Government increased to 5,000 million pesos (about US$1.3 million) the reward for information leading to the capture of Iván Mordisco, whom authorities blame for attacks on the Police and the Army.
