Club Brugge: Transfer Talks Denied

Reports that Liverpool were about to sign Joel Ordonez from Club Brugge for around 40 million euros appear to have been a bit premature. This is what James Pearce, journalist, writes The Liverpool Echo in The Athletic.

According to Pearce, Liverpool are not currently in talks with the Ecuadorian defender, despite persistent rumors that emerged last week. Those rumors arose after media from Ecuador suggested that Ordonez was close to a move to Anfield.

The 21-year-old defender was mentioned as a possible winter reinforcement for a Liverpool defense that has already faltered several times this season. Ordonez’s name quickly made the rounds among supporters, who hoped for a quick solution to the defensive problems.

However, that hope quickly cooled. Sources around Anfield previously minimized the chance of an immediate transfer, a view that was later also confirmed by Fabrizio Romano. Liverpool is indeed following Ordonez, but for the time being it remains just scouting and monitoring.

In episode 23 of the second season of Tijd voor Voetbal, the penalty phase in KRC Genk – Club Brugge, the difficult match of RSC Anderlecht is discussed and STVV continues to convince in the JPL. That and much more in Time for Football.
