This is what we call a serious failure. While FC Barcelona only returned to its Camp Nou last November after more than two years of renovation work and 1.5 billion euros spent, the stadium has already taken on water. This Sunday, while a big storm hit Catalonia, water managed to seep into the enclosure and cause significant leaks.
The images are striking. You can see real waterfalls falling in certain places of the stadium. The press gallery was particularly the victim of these leaks, while several centimeters of water stagnated in certain aisles. Real Madrid supporters took the opportunity to send a little dig at their rival on X: “The Camp Nou is applying to host the Swimming World Championships in 2030”.
To reduce costs (and who knows what else), in breach of the Statutes, they awarded the renovation of the Camp Nou to a construction company with no experience in large stadiums. However, the work carried out was impressive, and it is not finished. The Camp Nou has not yet fully reopened, as the 105,000 seats planned are not yet all accessible. We will have to wait until 2027 for this pharaonic project to be officially completed. The reopening was planned for the beginning of 2025, but the work was seriously delayed. And they obviously weren’t put together well.
