“To be honest, it’s great, but I know I have a ways to go, so it’s really nothing,” Edwards said after the 131-122 victory over the Cavaliers. “I’m a little sad that I surpassed Kobe. I wish I had waited another 100 days, but hey, it’s okay.”
Edwards scored 25 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds, and the Timberwolves achieved their best percentages of the season in field goals (51 of 89, 57%) and three-pointers (20 of 38, 53%). Edwards made 10 of 20 field goals and 4 of 7 three-pointers.
“Scoring comes naturally to him in a lot of ways,” coach Chris Finch said, recalling the first 40-point game of Edwards’ career, which came in Phoenix at the end of his rookie season. “At that moment you knew he had something inside that would allow him to reach that level.”
Edwards, who was the first pick in the 2020 draft, debuted at age 19. He reached the 10,000-point mark in 412 games, the 28th fastest player to do so in NBA history and the seventh among active players, behind Doncic (358), James (368), Joel Embiid (373), Durant (381), Trae Young (390) and Donovan Mitchell (410). Only two other players have scored 10,000 points with the Timberwolves: Kevin Garnett y Karl-Anthony Towns.
