(Yeonggwang = Yonhap News) Reporter Jang Deok-jong = Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do gave a boost to the local economy by hosting various sports competitions.

According to Yeonggwang-gun on the 9th, a total of 31 competitions (10 at the national level, 7 at the provincial level, 2 at the county level, and 12 training camps) were held in the region this year.

The military announced that the tournament attracted more than 120,000 athletes and visitors and had a ripple effect on the local economy worth 12.7 billion won.

A total of 10 national competitions in 7 sports were held throughout the year, including existing national competitions such as the National Middle School Basketball Competition and National Basketball Competition, as well as newly introduced competitions such as the National University Taekwondo Competition and the National Life Boxing Competition.

We expanded sports exchanges with each city and county by holding seven Jeonnam-level competitions, including the Beopseongpo Dano Festival Ssireum Competition and the President’s Cup National Ssireum King Jeollanam-do Representative Selection Competition.

It proved its competitiveness by successfully completing five Jeollanam-do sports festivals, including the Jeollanam-do Sports Festival.

The Yeonggwang-gun Community Sports Festival, in which members of 22 sports in the district participated, and the Community Gymnastics and Dance Festival, which was the long-awaited goal of the Gymnastics Association, were held for the first time to strengthen harmony and solidarity among residents.

By attracting field training using the winter tourism off-season, it had a ripple effect on the local economy.

A total of 12 training camps were held across 6 sports, including soccer, tennis, kendo, and basketball, and 29,000 athletes stayed in the region.

In particular, we achieved success in attracting field training for the national badminton team.

Yeonggwang-gun plans to host major competitions next year, such as the National Life Boxing Competition in February, the Hyeonjeonghwa Cup National Open Table Tennis Competition in March, and the National Middle and High School Basketball Competition and University Taekwondo Competition in April.

County Governor Jang Se-il said, “We will host more than 32 sports competitions next year, attracting a total of 150,000 athletes and visitors, thereby revitalizing the local economy and establishing ourselves as a sports industrial city in name and reality.”
