(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Dong-chan = Stan Wawrinka (Switzerland) ends his career as an active player at the end of the 2026 season.

Wawrinka said on his social media on the 20th, “I am now at the end of my career as a professional tennis player,” and “The 2026 season will be my last tour.”

Born in 1985, Wawrinka reached the top of the men’s singles tennis tournament at the 2014 Australian Open, 2015 French Open, and 2016 US Open.

He defeated Rafael Nadal (retired, Spain) in the finals of the 2014 Australian Open and Novak Djokovic (4th place, Serbia) in the finals of the 2015 French Open and 2016 US Open.

At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he teamed up with Roger Federer (retired, Switzerland) and won the men’s doubles gold medal.

Wawrinka, who rose to third place in the singles world rankings in 2014, is currently ranked 157th in the singles world rankings.
