TSG Women’s Victory: Schnaitheim Celebrates League Lead

The starting position couldn’t have been more exciting, as third in the table, TSG Schnaitheim expected leaders Vöhringen, who were two points better, and were able to overtake them with a win. Both teams were largely at their best and an exciting game was expected. But this went in one direction quite quickly. “We had decided to go full throttle from the start and we managed to do that, especially putting up a bomb defense,” said TSG coach Thilo Riehl happily.

The guests kept up until the score was 4:4 after seven minutes, but they had to fight for every goal. “You noticed that,” explains Riehl, whose team moved ahead to 11:5 within ten minutes. At the break it was already 18:8 for TSG, who kept their concentration high even after the break.

“We then improved again and Vöhringen then resigned,” reports the coach, who should not least be pleased by the balance of his team. Two players with six, two with five and one with four goals – it will be difficult for the opponent to prepare for the attacks. Schnaitheim no longer allowed the opponent to get close and even extended the lead to 15 goals (28:13 in the 50th minute).

“Everyone was able to get involved, and in the end we tried out a few things,” says Riehl, who was able to give some younger players playing time at this high level during the second half. The fact that a few technical errors happened and Vöhringen was able to make the result a little more bearable was something to be overcome, but in the end there was still a clear 30:22 victory.

This means that TSG is now at the top of the table – level on points with Vöhringen and HSG Winzingen/Wißgoldingen/Donzdorf (all 12:4). The Schnaitheimers have already defeated both direct competitors, but will have to compete in Vöhringen and at HSG WiWiDo in the second half of the season. SG Lauterstein/Treffelhausen/Böhmenkirch (9:5) and SG Altenstadt/Geislingen (8:6) are also still within reach, so the season should still bring a lot of excitement.

Expect an exciting second half of the season

“It’s all close together, that’s nice,” says Riehl, remaining cautious despite being at the top of the table: “We want to stay in the top three, we’ll see what that’ll do.” One would of course assume promotion to the association league, but it is anything but mandatory. Especially since TSG relies heavily on youth and the higher league would be a big leap for many young players.

This year, the Schnaitheim women have an away game on Sunday, December 14th (3 p.m.) at TSV Heiningen II. Two more points should be scored against the eighth team in the table (6:10), but Schnaitheim’s coach Riehl warns: “With the second teams you never know who is sitting on the bench, in any case we must not take this opponent lightly.”
