The new tennis season officially begins in Perth on January 2, 2026 with the United Cup. At the first meeting between Spain and Argentina, you won’t find the absolute top stars of the scene, but they will still be visible as the competition progresses.
The best male player at the United Cup is world number three Alexander Zverev, who will face Poland and the Netherlands with the German team in the group phase. In addition to the Hamburg native, nine other top 30 players will be competing in Perth and Sydney, including Felix Auger-Aliassime, Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur.
Alcaraz and Sinner play a show match
From January 5th the regular ATP tour starts with two 250 events. In Hong Kong the field will be led by Lorenzo Musetti and in Brisbane by Daniil Medvedev. Overall, in the first week of the new season – as of now – 23 of the 30 best players will play for points.
This does not include Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, who will play a show match in South Korea on January 10th and will travel to the Australian Open (January 18th to 31st) without a preparatory tournament. The same applies to the 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic.
