TOFAŞ made a statement about the lack of review of Conor Morgan’s block to Alex Perez with 2.5 seconds left in the match they lost to Beşiktaş 73-72, and made a suggestion about goaltending.

“We would like to share our opinions with the public about the decision position that affected the outcome of the match after the Beşiktaş GAİN match, which we lost 73-72 away in the 12th week of the Turkish Insurance Basketball Super League.
First of all, we would like to point out that although both teams came back from the European Cup matches in an intense fixture, they fought until the end and showed a high level of basketball by making a great effort. We congratulate the athletes of both teams for their effort in such a competitive match that both teams could win.
As in every match, there may be referee decisions that both sides do not agree with. However, we think that making the final decision after the final position is the deciding position of the match and therefore making the ‘goaltending decision’ is a more fair and a basketball perspective that will eliminate doubts.
This is the general approach in all FIBA organizations, Euroleague, national and international organizations. If a goaltending decision is not made, a position that may affect the outcome of the match cannot be watched on the monitor when the game is stopped. In addition, coaches for this position (since no goaltending decision has been made) have no chance to protect their rights by challenging.
Rules and technology provide our referees with the means to ensure justice.
As Tofaş Sports Club; While we expect a more fair management and approach in such decisions that determine the outcome of the match; We expect an evaluation and transparent explanation from the Central Referee Board, as in other European leagues, Euroleague and FIBA organizations.
What is goaltending?
It means that the referee decides a point for a shot that did not pass through the hoop. “If an opponent player interferes with the ball while the basketball is about to go towards the opposing team’s basket and the ball is landing towards the hoop, the point will be accepted even if the ball does not enter the basket.”
