Slovak Goalkeeper Meets Global Star

SAN FRANCISCO – In the second half of December, Slovak football players have the opportunity to use a few days for regeneration and to catch their breath before the difficult winter.

This applies mainly to those who play abroad, goalkeeper Dominik Holec from Baník Ostrava jumped to the USA before Christmas. He did not even expect what he achieved, but in the end he enjoyed the experience of a lifetime.

As part of the trip, Holec visited an NBA game in which the Golden State Warriors defeated the Orlando Magic 120:97. “I’ve been a basketball fan for many years, since I was about fifteen. My mom turned me on to it by coincidence, and I’ve really enjoyed watching it ever since.” he said.

However, the 31-year-old goalkeeper did not choose the match of the team from San Francisco by chance. “They were my favorite team from the beginning. And they weren’t doing that well in those days.” he added. However, the moment he will never forget came after the match.

In the bowels of the hall, he met the star of the home team and the entire competition. Stephen Curry is one of the most famous and certainly the most respected athletes in the world. The Slovakian goalkeeper was almost speechless when he looked at him, he could hardly find words when shaking hands.

“Being there and meeting my idol is something that cannot be described in words. When I met him, I had a million things in my head that I wanted to say to him. But I couldn’t get two meaningful sentences out of me. But it was really great to meet him and I will never forget it for the rest of my life.” described an unusual experience.

Curry was the best player of the game

Curry scored 26 points in the game and, as expected, was the home team’s best player. He shares the same height with Holec, both athletes are 191 centimeters tall. The goalkeeper of Ostrava wanted to surprise his idol, but in the end it didn’t happen.

“I told him that I have a tattoo of him, but that I won’t show it to him now, because I would have to take off my pants. I have the tattoo on my thigh. I also told him that I signed a contract with the same company that he represents, and mainly because he is my idol.”

In the spring, Holec will want to help Baník get higher in the table, since the team did not do well in the fall and is only in the 14th, penultimate place. However, even such an experience could break many things, as the Slovak football player could infect the whole team with adrenaline, energy and extremely positive mood from an unusual experience. “I’m a grown man and he met a grown man, but I almost cried. I’m a football player, but Curry is my biggest role model.” summed up Holec.
