Friborg-Gottéron prepares for the Spengler Cup and strengthens the squad with Swedish reinforcements.
The club has finished with Daniel Ljunggren, who joins specifically for games in the classic tournament.
The Spengler Cup kicks off in the intervening days and is the world’s oldest international ice hockey tournament, with over 100 years of history. Last season Fribourg-Gottéron took their first ever title, and this year the club enters with the goal of defending the dent.
On the bench is still Swedish Roger Rönnberg, and now another Swedish touch is added to the squad. On its website, Fribourg announces that Daniel Ljunggren is on loan from HC Thurgau for the tournament in Davos.
Ljunggren left Mora ahead of the 2024/25 season to play in the Swiss League. Last year he accounted for 31 points in 34 games and has continued to deliver this season as well. With an “A” on his chest, the 31-year-old has produced 24 points in 30 games for league leaders Thurgau, while his +20 is the best among the league’s forwards.
It is not the first time Ljunggren has represented Fribourg-Gottéron. During last year’s playoffs, he was loaned out and was noted for 1+1 in eleven games. This season he has also played two NL games for the club and scored a goal.
