The Trump administration, constrained by Congress, began on Friday to gradually release tens of thousands of photos and documents linked to sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein, who died in prison in 2019 before his trial. A New York prosecutor and federal police “have informed the Department of Justice that they have discovered more than one million additional documents potentially related to the Epstein case,” according to a department post on X.

“Our lawyers are working tirelessly to review these documents and make the necessary changes to protect victims, and we will release the documents as quickly as possible,” assured the Department of Justice, led by loyalists of President Donald Trump. “Due to the massive amount of material, this could take several more weeks,” he warned.

Trump administration accused of cover-up

The Trump administration has been accused of cover-up by the Democratic opposition, which accuses it of only handing out the pieces of the enormous file in dribs and drabs, after having heavily redacted them.

A law passed by Democrats and Republicans obliges the government, which this affair embarrasses to the highest degree because of the past friendly relationship between Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein, to publish the entire file.

Congress had set a deadline of December 19 to do this, which was therefore not respected. The first tranches of documents published Friday and Tuesday shed light on the spectacular network of Jeffrey Epstein, who committed suicide, according to authorities, before being tried in New York for sexual exploitation of minors. They also provided details of the relationship he had with Donald Trump, in particular an email from an investigator indicating that the 79-year-old Republican would have traveled eight times on Jeffrey Epstein’s private plane.

The American president has never been accused of criminal acts in connection with the Epstein affair. However, he sought to prevent the publication of the file, causing incomprehension among some of his supporters.
