In a pivotal moment for Newell’s Old Boys, the Nuevo Frente rojinegro, led by Cristian D’Amico, has officially put forward Claudio Vivas as their candidate for general director of football ahead of the upcoming club elections. Vivas, a former assistant to the legendary Marcelo Bielsa, has made a bold declaration: he wants Martín Anselmi to be the next coach of the “Leprosos.”
“We had a five-and-a-half-hour conversation. We need a coach who is his own man, who can grasp the current situation, and who can assemble a competitive team,” Vivas stated exclusively to Radio 2’s Zapping Sport.
The commitment to Anselmi is clear. “On November 18, I met with martín Anselmi. We discussed the football project, and the impression was overwhelmingly positive; he is exceptionally well-prepared. “While he has other proposals on the table, he has expressed a strong desire to join our club.”
Vivas elaborated on Anselmi’s qualifications: “He’s a modern and prepared coach. he started in the lower divisions, also worked as an assistant, and he’s a coach in high demand globally. This is precisely why we can’t confirm him before the elections, but he is our top choice. however, we must have a contingency plan, as unforeseen circumstances can always arise.”
The excitement surrounding this potential appointment is palpable.”It’s unachievable not to feel excited; this is a moment I’ve been preparing for a long time,” Vivas shared.
He further emphasized his personal motivation: “The previous leadership had much to learn and faced numerous challenges. Today, I want to return to Newell’s and contribute the knowledge and experience I’ve gained.”
“I am here because I’ve prepared myself, because I’ve traveled extensively, and now it’s time to return. This is arguably the most challenging institutional period Newell’s has faced,” Vivas concluded, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
Vivas also provided insights into his core team, detailing four key individuals who will oversee specific areas, from scouting to physical conditioning.Among them is a familiar face to Newell’s faithful: “Cristian Vella has been with me since he stepped away from playing football, assisting me wherever possible.”
Relationship with Lucas Bernardi
“We want Lucas Bernardi to be a part of our structure. We’ll discuss it once he returns from vacation. The Reserve team will operate under the same protocols as the First Division, so their alignment is crucial,” Vivas explained regarding Bernardi’s potential role.
He also hinted at decisions regarding the current squad. Vivas expressed his desire to have Éver Banega back at the club and stated,”We have conducted an analysis of potential signings. I’ve never stopped following Newell’s. We need to make definitive decisions regarding Cuesta, González, and herrera. In fact, there are some players whose contracts we will not be renewing.”
