Scarlino (Grosseto). In recent days, in the council room of the Municipality of Scarlino, a meeting dedicated to Stefano Brocchetta, archer and sergeant major of the Italian Army, protagonist of a sporting and human story of great value.
Present at the event were the mayor Francesca Travison, the city councilor with responsibility for sport, Diego Radi, and the Gherardo Leonardo D’Appiano archery company from Scarlino, affiliated to the Italian Archery Federation and CONI.
Stefano Brocchetta, 37 years old, resident in Rosignano, father of two children, after a serious accident at work occurred during a parachute exercise, which no longer allows him to walk, he chose to get back into the game through sport. With great physical and mental strength he dedicated himself to archery, a discipline that he now practices at high competitive levels, competing with the compound bow both in indoor competitions at 18 meters and in outdoor competitions at 50 meters, together with all the other archers, on equal terms, without differences or preclusions. A path made possible by the inclusive model promoted by the Italian Archery Federation.
Entrusted by the Federation to the technical care of Fabio Ticci, coach and president of the Gherardo Leonardo D’Appiano company, Brocchetta is also followed with great attention at a national level. The Federation has placed important expectations on him, in view of a growth path that looks ambitiously to international events and events 2028 Olympics. The president of the Federation Vittorio Polidori also participated in the meeting via video call, confirming the importance of the sports project.
Mayor Francesca Travison wanted to personally meet the athlete to learn about his history and needs.
«Stefano represents an extraordinary example of determination and ability to transform an enormous difficulty into a new opportunity for life and sport – he declares –. As the municipal administration we want to be at his side and support, together with the archery company, every possible path that allows him to train in the best possible conditions.”
Also the city councilor with responsibility for sport Diego Radi underlined the value of the path undertaken by the athlete: «Stefano Brocchetta’s sporting story speaks of inclusion, sacrifice and passion. It is a pride for our territory to be able to accompany an athlete who, with his daily commitment, gives a positive message to the whole community and in particular to the younger ones.”
The meeting laid the foundations for a shared work that will continue in the coming months, with the aim of identifying useful solutions to adapt the training structures and concretely support Stefano Brocchetta’s sporting path, accompanying him on his journey towards the 2028 Olympics, a symbol of resilience and barrier-free sport.
