Mexico.- Just a few days before the end of 2025, the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sports (CONADE) remembers the feats of the most outstanding Mexican athletes of the year, and one of the main exponents of our sport at an international level was the archer Maya Becerra Arizaga.
The Jalisco native and compound bow specialist has spent several years in the archery elite around the world, but it was in 2025 that it established itself as the best on the planet in its branch and test with legendary results.

“I have a lot of nostalgia and very beautiful feelings. It was the best year of my career, so I am very happy and excited. I think 2025 will be unforgettable, because it exceeded all my expectations. Of course I came with my goals, but as the competitions went by it became very crazy, so it is a year that I will always have in my heart,” she commented.
After seasons as a multi-gold medalist in the team and mixed team events, Becerra Arizaga He had a great challenge and dream to fulfill: to obtain his first international crown on an individual level, after being left behind on several occasions.
The feat occurred during the first months of 2025, in the first stage of the World Archery World Cup Series, held in Central Florida, United States, where she finally managed to become the solo champion.
Maya Becerra, current number 1 in the world ranking, directed her arrows at the following objectives: the World Championship of the specialty, in South Korea, and the World Games, in China, tournaments in which he also won the gold medal with great dominance over all his rivals.
“It is a pride for me to have had these results just when we have a female president (Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo). Also as a women’s team we have done very well, so it is a very incredible moment for us because women are in the spotlight throughout Mexico.”
“I would tell the new generations to never give up. I know that there are very difficult situations that athletes go through, especially in mental health, but we can get out of all of them and the best results are just around the corner,” assured.
After the historic medals won and having been the winner of the National Sports Award, Maya Becerra already has her sights set on 2026, the year that will represent the beginning of her first Olympic cycle, this after the announcement that the mixed team event will be included starting in Los Angeles 2028.
“We would like to be very forceful in the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American Games, especially in a mixed team that will be the Olympic event, so we will go with everything to each competition in 2026. It will be a heavy, but very exciting year,” concluded.
