Marquinhos: PSG’s Hunger for More After Six Titles | 2025

“This trophy weighs a lot! » A little over an hour after PSG’s historic victory in the Intercontinental Cup final won on penalties against Flamengo (1-1, 2-1 tab), Marquinhos presented himself in the mixed zone with his new “baby” under his arm and a broad smile on his lips. Happy and proud to have won a sixth title this year with the Parisian club, the Brazilian captain explained that he wanted to continue this momentum in 2026 and maintain the same ambition.

You have just won your sixth title in 2025. Is this the best year of your career?

MARQUINHOS. It’s the club’s best year, first of all! We have won almost everything, we are only missing the Club World Cup. This performance shows the ambition of Paris, the philosophy that we have today. It’s a club that has invested a lot to get here. It’s nice to still be part of this club and this group. You have to keep going, always be hungry and still work to accomplish even more things.

Were you surprised by the performance of Matvey Safonov who stopped four shots on goal?

It’s very important in these kinds of moments to have a goalkeeper like that, who can reassure us. We must congratulate the work of all the staff who prepared him well and helped him. Afterwards, he has his qualities: knowing how to leave at the right time, in the right timing, because there were quality players opposite who normally shoot very well. But once again, at this moment, we really need a guardian who reassures us.

“We didn’t play our best game but…”

Even without having a great match, you managed to win. Is this the mark of the big clubs?

It’s true, we didn’t have our best match but we still had a good match. On the other hand, there was a team that put us in difficulty during certain moments. They exploited things that they worked on. It showed that they had worked on our weak points.

Did the experience of previous finals help you?

We knew how to manage it well. After an accident, a penalty, they came back into the match. But it’s a final. And a final plays out like that. We had more chances, we had more of the ball and we played the game we needed to. A final is decided on details and this match was decided on penalties…
