Ancelotti Exit: Botafogo Insecurity & Board Disputes

O Botafogo surprised by announcing on Wednesday night (17) the departure of coach Davide Ancelotti. The coach would remain at Glorioso until at least the end of his contract, valid until the end of 2026, but some reasons – which go far beyond results – ended the Italian’s first experience at the helm of a club.

The decision not to remain in the position was taken by mutual agreement at a friendly meeting held between the parties on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the ESPNDavide did not agree with the decision of the black and white board of directors to fire Luca Guerra, a physical trainer considered essential in his technical committee. The reason, however, was not unique to the Italian.

The coach felt insecure regarding the Rio team’s planning for 2026. With the threat of dismantling the squad for next season, Davide had no guarantees from John Textor’s club about replacement parts and new investments for next year.

Thus, amidst a scenario of uncertainty about the future, the Italian commander chose not to remain at Botafogo and intends to continue his career as head coach at another team.

Davide had an agreement to assist his father, Carlo Ancelotti, in Brazilian team during preparation for the World cup and next year’s World Cup. His presence in the United States, however, is still a question mark.

The presence until then was part of an agreement between Botafogo and CBF and which would still need to be repeated by his new club. Davide, however, does not hide from his father and those closest to him that the priority is the search for a new team – with the possibility of being an assistant to the national team only coming up on the agenda at a second stage of the negotiations.

The possibility of bringing forward the partnership with Carleto on the FIFA Date in March also exists, but would only occur in a scenario where Davide does not yet have a new team to be the head coach.

Now, while Fogão races against time to find a replacement for 2026, Davide is free on the market in search of a new home.
