It’s the end of a terrible suspense. Lando Norris emerged victorious from the three-way fight with Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri by finishing in 3rd place in the last GP of the season in Abu Dhabi. He thus won his first Formula 1 world champion title.
The Briton finished behind his partner at McLaren and the quadruple world champion who finished 2nd overall, despite this 8th Grand Prix victory this season.
From the start, Piastri launched hostilities by setting off at full speed, on hard tires, to put pressure on the first two in the standings. And from the first round, the Australian had already overtaken his partner. Under pressure Norris did not come far from a sanction.
While he was behind Yuki Tsunoda, after a first pit stop, the Briton overtook the Japanese by completely crossing the white line, during the 23rd lap.
An action which could have earned him a 5-second penalty, but the stewards decided to sanction the Red Bull driver who made too many changes of direction to prevent Norris from passing, and thus defend his partner Verstappen. After this alert, the Briton held on for the rest of the race to finish on the podium and win the holy grail.
