There are some players who are talked about a lot for the wrong reasons. Instead of highlighting their prowess on the pitch, we talk about their attitude, their contract or even their injury. Anthony Rendon is the perfect example, but he is not the subject of this text today.
In the category of those who are talking a lot, Kris Bryant’s name is at the top of the list. After all, a Denver-area reporter once called him a bank robber because he cashes his paycheck without fulfilling his part of the contract, which is to play baseball.
Bryant seems to have a good attitude. However, his heavy contract and his non-presence on the field mean that the press is constantly bad about him.
Zack Rosenthal, who until recently was part of the Colorado Rockies organization, came to his former player’s defense, stating how much the latter would like to see the action instead of being a spectator. In other words, playing instead of constantly finding yourself on the injured list.
Groundhog Day
There is every reason to believe the one who held the position of vice-president of baseball operations as well as the role of assistant to the general manager of the Rockies. Certainly, he is one of those who convinced Bryant to bring his talent to Colorado. Obviously he won’t say it was a mistake.
Even though his justifications are good. Number 23 had received an invitation to the All-Star Game the season before. He is and always will be a World Series champion. He wasn’t that old once and he had done well during his short stint in San Francisco. The management and the player got along well. Everything was meant to be a success. However, it is quite the opposite. It’s a shame, because as Rosenthal explained, Nolan Arenado had only just left Colorado for St. Louis and the club’s senior management really wanted to have a star player in their lineup to demonstrate to fans that they cared about the team’s success.
But the reality is that Bryant has not stepped on the pitch since signing a contract with Colorado in 2022. He only played 11 games in 2025 and 37 in 2024. We are also talking about 80 in 2023 and 42 in 2022. He does not help his teammates win games.
The right attitude
What often emerges from the Kris Bryant file is how much his situation frustrates him and that he would really like to do what he loves most in the world, which is playing baseball. If this information is getting out so much, from all sides, it is because it must be true.
On the other hand, despite the best attitude in the world, the body seems to have abandoned the athlete. There is reason to wonder whether we will ever see Kris Bryant in his work uniform again. From what people say, he appears to be a gentleman and would do anything in his power to return to the game. That said, do the sports gods want him to return to the game?
- When will a big name signing be due?
- Ketel Marte to the Mets?
- Nice signing in Seattle.
- A page is turning in New York.
