You have the news, we have a little bit!
The reinforcements turned out not to be enough to keep other teams under them. VELO, which was relegated last year, will return to the Premier League after 1 season. They became champions in the first division for first teams by force majeure.
Seven of the eight games went to FIT Almere relatively easily. Only Alida Chen surprisingly lost to Mandy Duijndam, who recorded her first victory in the premier league. Due to the absence of Noah Haase (competition in Switzerland) and an injury to Dennis Koppen, coach Cheryl Seinen had to puzzle over the line-up. Imke van der Aar was missing at BCH.
Alex Vlaar and Dyon van Wijlick had to score the first point against Andy Buijk and Niels Veenstra. The first game was evenly matched until 7-7, but above ten Alex and Dyon quickly expanded to 21-14. The second game actually has the same image. From 12-11 the score quickly went to 17-12, after which the game was won solidly with 21-15.
In the women’s doubles, Kirsten de Wit and Diede Odijk were allowed to compete against Lieke Maes and Rebecca van den Berg. Despite a night flight from Azerbaijan for Kirsten, she and Diede achieved an easy victory over the Den Bosch ladies who could not keep up with the pace of the Almere ladies. With 21-14 and 21-10 the point went to FIT Almere.
Today Muhammad Izzudin played the first single against Dion Hoegen. While Dion made a less strong impression in the first leg against Dennis Koppen, the young national player showed a much stronger game today. The first game was still even at 15-15, but the experienced Muhammad then won the first game with 21-16. In the second game at 6-6, Muhammad decided the game with 9 points in a row (15-6) and then played the game calmly (21-14).
Alida Chen faced Mandy Duijndam today. The young national player Mandy, who was still waiting for her first victory in the premier league, actually had the initiative in scoring for the entire game and Alida was actually behind the entire game. The careless playing Alida suffered her seventh loss in the singles with 18-21 and 19-21. Alida came close after 16-20 in the second game but, with a lucky netball, the victory still went to Mandy.
Doubles player Joep Strooper was allowed to compete against Niels Veenstra in the second single today. It has already been proven before that doubles player Joep can be used in many ways. Today he showed again that he can perform well in the single. The pace that Joep set on the mat meant that Niels was actually behind the times during the entire game. He clearly had difficulty keeping up with the fast double hits that Joep produced. Joep achieved a big victory with 21-12 and 21-13.
Diede Odijk played, just like in the first match, against Rebecca van den Berg. Rebecca, who played with often unsuccessful false strokes, had no chance against the solidly playing Diede, who often outpaced Rebecca with simple tempo strokes. With 21-8 and 21-11, this point easily went to FIT Almere and the score was 5-1.
In the second mixed doubles, Alex Vlaar and Alida Chen competed against Andy Buijk and Mandy Duijndam. The responsive Alex and Alida had few problems with the unresponsive Andy and Mandy and managed to keep this last point in Almere without any problems with 21-11 and 21-13, achieving a 7-1 final score.
First mix double Joep Strooper and Kirsten de Wit were allowed to compete against Brandon Bessem and Lieke Maes. This match was also a big victory for FIT Almere. The experienced Den Bosch couple had nothing to say against Joep and Kirsten in this match. Brendon and Lieke were unable to follow the pace of Joep and Kirsten, who achieved a big victory for the yellow-black brigade with 21-11 and 21-13.
With 1 round to go, FIT Almere has a 1 point lead over Drop Shot, which this afternoon achieved a 5-3 victory over Duinwijck, which follows on 11 points but still has a catch-up game to play against Roosterse.
Saturday, February 21 is the final round in which FIT Almere will visit Amersfoort and Drop Shot will play against DKC. There is little at stake for DKC because they will certainly finish fourth and FIT Almere, Drop Shot and Duinwijck will compete for the first three positions, which will determine the play-off opponents. At the bottom the curtain has fallen for CT deBoer BCH.
