Élodie Tessier: National Honor & Team Achievement

BASKETBALL. The name of Élodie Tessier and her teammates will forever be inscribed in the history of Canadian wheelchair basketball.

Wheelchair Basketball Canada recently announced the next inductees into its Hall of Fame. The winning team of the first edition of the three-on-three open world championship is one of them.

Last August, Élodie Tessier helped the Canadian women’s team win this competition held in South Africa. The athlete from Saint-Germain-de-Grantham was also proclaimed the tournament’s star player par excellence.

In addition to this team, the Canadian men’s team crowned three-on-three world champions in 2025 as well as the Alberta Northern Lights of the 1980s will also be inducted. Gary McPherson, Roy Sherman, Jamie Borisoff, Jennifer Krempien and Dean MacKinnon will also be inducted into the hall of fame.

“Congratulations to five remarkable individuals and two exceptional teams, whose decades of excellence have helped elevate our sport and strengthen wheelchair basketball across Canada,” said Wendy Gittens, CEO of Wheelchair Basketball Canada.

“Their achievements at home and on the world stage speak for themselves, but their influence goes far beyond the scoreboard. Each of them has been a true champion of the growth and evolution of our sport, helping to shape a brighter future for the sport.”

The two three-on-three world champion teams will be officially inducted on the sidelines of the Canadian Wheelchair Basketball Championship, which will take place May 15-17 in Richmond, British Columbia. (JH)
