Wright wins as a Christmas thief – and meets Germans
Before Christmas, two-time world champion Peter Wright comes to the stage at the Darts World Cup in traditional costume. Things are also going well for the Scot in London in terms of sport.
The two-time darts world champion Peter Wright made a remarkable appearance as the Christmas thief “Grinch” and got off to a good start at the World Championships in London. After his clear 3-0 win over Dutchwoman Noa-Lynn van Leuven, the 55-year-old Scot will face German debutant Arno Merk in round two.
Note: “You can’t have a better game”
Merk won the opening game 3-1 against Belgian Kim Huybrechts last Thursday, ensuring a successful German start at Alexandra Palace. Before the start of the tournament, Merk told the German Press Agency about a possible match against Wright: “That would be something super special. You can’t have a better game.” The game takes place on December 23rd.
This time Wright came to the Ally Pally in a green and yellow outfit. He had also painted his beard green. The Grinch was pictured on his shirt. The flamboyant Scot with the nickname “Snakebite” likes to wear Christmas outfits, especially before the holidays. In 2020 and 2022, Wright secured the title of world champion.
