Curling duo sees Olympic dream shattered after loss to New Zealand

The mixed curling duo Lisenka Bomas and Wouter Gösgens failed to qualify for the Winter Olympics in Milan.

Bomas and Gösgens lost their last group match 8-5 to New Zealand at the Olympic qualifying tournament in Kelowna, Canada. As a result, the Dutch duo finished third in Group B behind Australia and China. Only the numbers one and two of the two groups continue in the tournament, where two tickets for Milan can be earned.

End of Olympic dream

The two Dutchmen had won five of the first six matches and were therefore still in the race for one of those tickets, but the defeat against New Zealand put an end to their Olympic dream.

Last week, the Dutch curling men also failed to qualify for Milan. Gösgens was also in that team, together with Laurens Hoekman, Jaap van Dorp and Tobias van den Hurk. The men finished fifth in a group of eight in Kelowna, which meant an early end to their OKT.
