The National U Series Badminton Competition is an official top youth event hosted by the China Badminton Association, aiming to discover and cultivate outstanding competitive sports reserve talents. The U15-17 group, as the oldest group in the series, brings together many powerful players with the potential of the National Youth Team. The competition is extremely valuable. The schedule of this finals is tight, with team competition first and then individual competition, which poses a severe test to the players’ physical, technical and psychological qualities.

In the first men’s team event, the U16-17 Chongqing Frese team, composed of Hong Tianyue, Luo Jingyu, Lin Songyue, Wang Zejia, Yang Xuanyi, and Wei Zhipeng, made it all the way to the finals. In a strong duel with the Zhejiang team, the Chongqing team, which was determined to win, lost 1:2 in the first set of singles, and the situation of winning the championship suddenly became serious; in the second set of doubles, Lin Songyue and Wang Zejia won 2:0 in one go. The two teams battled to 1:1, and the game fell into a stalemate. At this time, Hong Tianyue came on the stage as the key second singles player. He withstood the huge pressure and relied on his solid technical skills, flexible on-the-spot adaptability and stable performance at critical moments. He played steadily in the decisive set and waited for opportunities to attack. In the end, he swept his opponent in straight sets, allowing the Chongqing Frese team to reverse the victory 2:1 and collect the men’s team championship trophy.

The championship glory in the team competition greatly boosted the team’s morale. In the men’s singles competition that followed, Luo Jingyu, a player from Chongqing Frese Team, continued to shine on the field. From the group stage to the semi-finals, Luo Jingyu defeated many strong opponents one after another with his fierce smashes, strict defense and calm mentality beyond his age. It is worth mentioning that Jiangsu team player Xu Jining, the opponent in this men’s singles final, is also a teammate of the Chinese National Youth Team. The two met in the badminton men’s singles final of the 2025 Asian Youth Games. At that time, Luo Jingyu defeated Xu Jining 2:1 to win the championship. This time they met again, it was undoubtedly a dual contest of strength and psychology. In the final, Luo Jingyu relied on more delicate control at the net and decisive backcourt assault to defeat Xu Jining again with outstanding performance, and successfully won the men’s singles championship, adding another heavy gold medal to the Chongqing Frese team, echoing the team championship, and creating a double crown.

In this national U-series badminton finals, the Chongqing Frese team won the U16-17 men’s team and men’s singles double championships in one fell swoop. This is not only the result of the hard training and tenacious struggle of the players, but also intuitive confirmation of the remarkable results of the complete echelon planning and construction of the Chongqing professional badminton team. Hong Tianyue’s mainstay role in the team competition and Luo Jingyu’s strong rise to the top in the individual competitions are the vivid epitome of the large-scale emergence of reserve talents under this system.

At the just-concluded 15th National Games, the Chongqing badminton team also achieved remarkable results. In addition to the adult men’s doubles and mixed doubles entering the finals in two individual events, the youth men’s team, led by these U16-17 young players, also entered the National Games finals for the first time and achieved an excellent result of sixth place in the men’s team under 18 years old. It can be said that there is a bright future.
