The Atlas Lions did not tremble. With two successes and a draw during the group stage, Morocco logically and easily qualified for the round of 16 of the 2025 African Cup of Nations. The Moroccans are now waiting to know the identity of their next opponent, who will be a third in the group.
The match schedule is already known. It will take place this Sunday, January 4 at 5 p.m. at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat. However, we will still have to wait at least a few hours to determine with certainty the nation which will be opposed to Morocco.
However, there are not countless possibilities left. The Comoros having already been eliminated with only two small points, there are only two possibilities left according to the table drawn up during the draw: the third in group C or that in group E.
Answer this Tuesday?
The third and final day of Pool C is scheduled for this Tuesday. Leading with six points, Nigeria faces Uganda, while Tunisia challenges Tanzania. Aside from the Super Eagles, the other three teams can still finish in 3rd place and, therefore, potentially face Morocco. And if the 3rd overtakes Angola in the ranking of the best thirds (2 points, -1 goal difference), it will face Morocco.
If this is not the case, all eyes will be on Pool E, whose matches are scheduled for this Wednesday. Algeria is in the lead and can no longer be caught up thanks to its successes against Sudan and Burkina Faso. These two nations face each other on the 3rd day, the match will determine their final order in the ranking. For Equatorial Guinea, the adventure is already over.
In summary, there remain five possibilities: Tunisia, Uganda, Tanzania, Burkina Faso and Sudan. Morocco’s opponent could be known this Tuesday at 7 p.m. after the Group C matches. Or the next day, Wednesday, at the same time following the confrontation between the last two nations mentioned.
