Latvian NHL Success: Players Shine in Championship

“Lightning” was superior with 5-4 (0-0, 3-0, 1-4, 0-0, 2-0), winning the fourth victory in a row.

Girgenson was on the field for 14 minutes and 52 seconds, of which two minutes and 44 seconds he played in the minority. The Latvian forward made two shots on goal in the allotted time, used two power plays, blocked one opponent’s shot, lost the only shot and ended the game with a negative efficiency coefficient of -1.

By the second minute of the third period, the Lightning had a 4-1 lead, but lost three goals between the 50th and 60th minutes, allowing the visitors to equalize. Juraj Slafkovskis tied the score four seconds before the end of regular time.

No goals were scored in overtime, but in the game-winning shootout, shots by Kage Golsalves and Brayden Point secured the victory for the Lightning.

Nikita Kucherovs scored two goals for the home team in regular time, while Nika Paul and Pontus Holmberj scored one each. Slafkovskis scored 2+1 for Canadiens, while Ivan Demidov and Noah Dobson stood out with 1+1.

With 47 points in 38 games, “Lightning” is in third place in the Eastern Conference, while “Canadiens” is one point less and in fourth position.

The team represented by Girgenson will play the next game on New Year’s Eve Latvian time, when they will meet the Anaheim “Ducks” hockey players.
