Latvian forward Teodors Bļugers could return to the field after Christmas as soon as possible, the head coach of the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League (NHL) club he represents, Adam Foot, announced on Monday.
This season, due to injuries, Blügers participated in only two NHL games, in which he scored one goal. The last time the 31-year-old Latvian striker went to the field was in mid-October.
In November, Blüger returned to skating, but the recovery from the lower body injury did not go as planned, and the injury was renewed.
“Hopefully we’ll see him on the pitch just after Christmas,” Foote said. “After what happened to him [kad viņš saasināja traumu]he basically had to start his recovery from the beginning. It’s a shame because we miss him.”
Bluger is in his third season for the Canucks, but before that he also represented the Vegas Golden Knights and the Pittsburgh Penguins. In total, the Latvian striker has played 420 games in the regular season in the NHL, in which he scored 153 (50+103) points, but he has 37 games and six (2+4) points in the Stanley Cup.
With 25 points in 30 games, the Canucks are 15th in the Western Conference, ahead of only the Nashville Predators, who have 24 points in 28 matches.
The “Canucks” will play their next game on Friday night Latvian time, hosting the Buffalo “Sabres” team, which ranks last in the Eastern Conference with 26 points in 29 games.
