JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The world of national motor racing is in mourning again. Not long ago, road race racer Awhin Sanjaya had an accident while racing and died.
Confirmed by Darmawansyah, from Dragon Event Organizer as the promoter of the Sumatra Cup Prix, Awhin had an accident while racing in the 2025 Sumatra Cup Prix Grand Final at the Zabaq National Circuit, East Tanjung Jabung Regency, Jambi.

“This incident occurred on Sunday, December 14 2025, at 17.05 WIB in Race 21 (Final Race) SCP 3 class (Duck 4T 150cc Tune UP Open) 2nd Race. The incident started on the 4th lap of the 15 laps carried out, between Post 7 to Post 8, with sunny weather conditions,” said Apriyanto Romadani, Chair of the Organizing Committee, quoted from the minutes.
“At that time, Awhin Sanjaya’s brother hit the rear tire of the racer in front of him which resulted in Awhin Sanjaya’s brother falling on the track. In this condition, the distance between Awhin Sanjaya’s brother and the racer behind him was very close, so consecutive accidents between the racers occurred,” said Apriyanto.
Apriyanto added that immediately the track officers raised the yellow flag and saw the emergency situation.

“The race leader immediately raised the red flag to stop the ongoing race, ordered the medical team together with the ambulance that was at the nearest point to the incident to go straight to the scene to provide first aid and decided to evacuate the victim to the nearest hospital (RSUD Nurdin Hamzah),” he said.

Awhin Sanjaya was born in Masamba, North Luwu, South Sulawesi, on February 22 1998. His name is widely known as a talented racer, both at national and international level.
Awhin’s racing career was forged at a young age after joining as a racer under the Astra Honda Racing Team. His work in the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) began in 2017, marking his step on the Asian racing stage.

At the national level, Awhin also made a number of achievements. He won the 2016 Motorprix in the MP2 category, and won a gold medal at the 2021 Papua National Sports Week (PON).
Entering the 2025 season, Awhin is still actively participating in various national championships. One of them is the Sumatra Cup Prix Grand Final.
