Second at mid-season, still in the race for Ligue 1, AS Saint-Étienne is moving forward… but on a tightrope. Behind the correct results lies a much more worrying reality, revealed by Romain Molina: a locker room far from being totally aligned with the collective objective, with the approach of a winter transfer window which promises to be hot.
According to the journalist, the Greens have lost their aura at the start of the season by revealing major flaws, particularly in defensive transition, but also a form of complacency. Worse still, some players would be more focused on their individual exposure than on the climb. A situation which gave hope to the adversaries and created an ambiguous climate within the group.
And winter could change everything. Molina clearly evokes persistent desires to leave, after the Stassin and Davitashvili files, the latter finishing very strongly just before the transfer window. Result: Saint-Étienne could still have to take out the checkbook to compensate, at the risk of further unbalancing an already fragile project. Management will have to decide quickly, otherwise the climb will escape its control.
