Seelt: Purchase Options & Key Arguments

Jenson Seelt’s development at VfL Wolfsburg is noticeably picking up speed. The 22-year-old central defender, who moved to Wolves on loan from Sunderland AFC, has now firmly become the focus of attention after a difficult start – and is therefore increasingly putting the purchase option anchored in the contract on the agenda.

After a knee injury at the start of the season and a bumpy start including a yellow-red card in the DFB Cup against Kiel, the situation seemed tricky for Seelt at times. But the Dutchman showed morale – and benefited from new trust under new coach Daniel Bauer. In the past few weeks, Seelt has been a regular starter and impressed on the right in central defense with calm, overview and clean build-up play alongside Konstantinos Koulierakis. Denis Vavro currently only has the role of challenger.

The achievements of the 1.95 meter tall defender, who struggled with a torn cruciate ligament for a long time in the previous season, have not gone unnoticed within the club. After kicker-Information VfL has a purchase option, which should be at least 15 million euros – not a small investment. Nevertheless: Seelt feels comfortable in Wolfsburg and can easily imagine staying there for a longer period of time. That speaks for Lower Saxony.

However, the upswing has also brought other clubs onto the scene. According to reports, Spanish clubs have already made inquiries with Sunderland. For VfL, this could mean having to take action promptly – possibly with the aim of renegotiating the transfer fee a bit.
