Ajax will only start the search for a successor to John Heitinga after the arrival of a new technical director. This is what general manager Menno Geelen of the Amsterdam club said on Friday during the General Meeting of Shareholders. Interim coach Fred Grim will therefore remain ultimately responsible on the bench for the time being.
After the dismissal of head coach John Heitinga, the current technical director, Alex Kroes, also made his position available. However, at the request of the supervisory board and the other directors, Kroes will remain in his post for the time being. Last weekend, Heitinga’s assistant Grim was on the bench as interim coach during the 2-1 loss to FC Utrecht in the Eredivisie.

Ajax will only go after the arrival of a new one td looking for a new head coach, Geelen explained to the shareholders on Friday. “Our ambition is to first appoint a statutory technical director and then a trainer. This means that Fred Grim will remain interim coach of Ajax in the coming weeks,” the director is quoted as saying Algemeen Dagblad.
It is still unclear who the new technical man should be, but club watcher Mike Verweij The Telegraph revealed on the podcast on Friday Kick-Off that there are two names floating around: Jordi Cruijff, the son of club icon Johan Cruijff, and former Ajax player Maxwell. “If Jordi Cruijff is the new technical director, Michael Kinsbergen may also return. He had a very good relationship with Cruijff senior. Maxwell’s name is mentioned. He was technical director at Paris Saint-Germain. These are names that open a lot of doors at other clubs,” says Verweij.
