Astrid Behrla becomes IJF-A Judo Referee in Győr

Astrid Behrla of North Rhine-Westphalia has successfully qualified as an IJF-A referee, the German Judo Federation (Deutscher Judo-Bund) reported.

The accomplishment came during the EJU/IJF Referee Seminar and subsequent examinations in Győr, Hungary. Behrla demonstrated proficiency in both the theoretical and practical segments of the assessment.

Candidates for the prestigious IJF-A license were required to prove their expertise during a preceding seminar. This involved extensive rule and video analyses as well as interviews. Behrla delivered strong performances in this phase, confirming her high level of professional competence.

Her performance on the mat was equally assured. During the practical examination, which took place at the Cadet European Cup in Győr, Behrla officiated her matches securely and in accordance with the rules. She displayed the necessary calm and clarity demanded at the international level.

Andre Lippeck, the Federal Referee Coordinator for the German Judo-Bund, congratulated Behrla in the name of the German referees.

“Astrid has earned these successes through great dedication, continuous education, and outstanding performances at national and international levels,” Lippeck stated. “The results are a well-deserved recognition of her work and at the same time a confirmation of the high quality of German refereeing.

On behalf of all German referees, I congratulate Astrid heartily and wish her all the best for her future international career, much success, and always a happy hand with her decisions.”

The IJF-A license is the highest level of refereeing certification awarded by the International Judo Federation. Referees holding this license are entrusted with officiating at the most prestigious judo tournaments, including the Olympic Games and World Championships.

With her new qualification, Behrla is now eligible to be assigned to officiate at major international judo competitions. Her next steps will involve waiting for assignments from the European Judo Union (EJU) and the International Judo Federation (IJF) for upcoming events.
